Andrew McCabe Has Been Interviewed By Robert Mueller: Report

President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey was a significant topic of conversation.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was fired Friday night, has met with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators.

According to reports, McCabe’s interview with the Special Counsel revolved largely around President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.

McCabe has also handed over copies of contemporaneous memos he wrote about his interactions with President Trump and what James Comey told him about interactions with Trump.

As Axios points out, “The specifics of Trump’s thinking about Comey are of acute interest to Mueller, in part because of Trump’s own statements linking the firing to the Russia investigation that is at the heart of the special counsel’s mission.”

“Any obstruction of justice argument would center on Trump’s firing of Comey. McCabe has signaled that he will be corroborating Comey’s account, and with contemporaneous, detailed notes,” Axios went on to note.

McCabe released a statement in response saying his firing was politically motivated and intended to discredit the Special Counsel investigation and his connection to it.

“This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally,” McCabe said in a statement.

“It is part of this Administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day.”
