Poll: Democrats Have Double-Digit Midterm Lead
A new poll shows good signs for Democrats and even more trouble spots for Republicans.
There is a blue wave building.
Democrats have a 10-point lead heading into the 2018 midterm elections, a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll has found.
The poll found that despite a slight increase in President Trump’s approval rating, Democrats are poised for major gains in November.
If the election were held today, 50 percent of voters say they prefer that Democrats control Congress, while just 40 percent say they want Republicans to maintain control.
But the generic ballot is just the beginning of problems for Republicans.
Democrats have increased their lead since January’s poll when they had a 6 point lead.
Democrats have a significant enthusiasm advantage
The NBC poll found that 60 percent of Democratic voters have a high degree of interest in the upcoming election while 54 percent of Republicans say the same.
And among independent voters, Democrats hold a massive 12-point lead in voter preference.

Republicans losing ground among key supporters
Republicans are also seeing support from groups that are traditionally part of their coalition slide.
Support from white voters has dipped 3 percent from 50 percent to 47 percent.
And among suburban voters, support for a Republican-controlled Congress dropped by 7 points.
Support from white-collar workers dropped 9 points.
But the most devastating drop came from voters who live in districts that are currently held by Republicans where there was a 6 point drop in support for Republican control of Congress.
About the poll: The live-caller NBC/WSJ poll was conducted March 10-14 of 1,100 adults – nearly half reached by cell phone – and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.0 percentage points. The margin of error among the 930 registered voters is plus-minus 3.2 percentage points.
