Trump Homeland Security Head Confirms They’re Considering Separating Children From Mothers

In an interview on CNN, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly confirmed on Monday that he is considering separating children and parents if they are caught crossing the border.

Kelly said to ld Wolf Blitzer that separating children from their parents would help deter Central Americans from trying to come to the United States illegally.
“I would do almost anything to deter the people from Central America to getting on this very, very dangerous network that brings people through Mexico to the United States,” Kelly said.
Kelly also offered that the Department of Homeland Security has “tremendous experience” dealing with unaccompanied minors.
“We turn them over to The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and they do a very, very good job of either putting them in foster care or linking them up with relatives in the United States,” he said.
Due to regulations that prohibit the long-term detention of minors, families are traditionally released when they are caught pending their immigration proceedings. u
