Trump Granted 38 Chinese Trademarks Including For Escort Services

In today’s edition of WHAT THE EFFFFF IS HAPPENING?! we learn that China has granted preliminary approval of 38 new Trump-related trademarks as Trump’s family develops a series of Trump-branded products in China which include among other things, escort services.

According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump’s lawyers in China applied for the trademarks in April of 2016.

In addition to being a clear conflict of interest, the new trademarks are also just sleazy. Why in the world would the President of the United States be interested in running a Chinese escort service.

According to the Associated Press, “If Trump receives any special treatment in securing trademark rights, it would violate the US Constitution, which bans public servants from accepting anything of value from foreign governments unless approved by Congress, ethics lawyers from across the political spectrum say. Concerns about potential conflicts of interest are particularly sharp in China, where the courts and bureaucracy are designed to reflect the will of the ruling Communist Party.”

The report also notes that the trademark approvals seemed to get processed very quickly, raising questions about whether Donald Trump is getting any special treatment as a result of being president. The AP notes, “If Trump receives any special treatment in securing trademark rights, it would violate the US Constitution, which bans public servants from accepting anything of value from foreign governments unless approved by Congress, ethics lawyers from across the political spectrum say.”
