Dick Durbin Comes Out Against Trump Supreme Court Pick

The number two Democrat in the Senate, Dick Durbin announced that he will not vote for Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.

“I came out of this hearing firmly convinced that I must oppose the nomination of Neil Gorsuch,” Senator Dick Durbin said.

“In ducking these critical questions Judge Gorsuch ended up saying nothing in the hearing to assuage my concerns,” Durbin said from the Senate floor.

Durbin added that Gorsuch’s work in the Bush Justice Department raises “deeply troubling questions about what Judge Gorsuch would do to stand up to this president or any president.”

Democrats, led by leader Chuck Schumer, have announced that they will require Gorsuch to overcome a 60 vote threshold.

“He will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation. My vote will be no, and I urge my colleagues to do the same,” Schumer said.

“If this nominee cannot earn 60 votes, a bar met by each of President Obama’s nominees and George Bush’s last two nominees, the answer isn’t to change the rules. It’s to change the nominee,” Schumer said.
