Texas Democrat To Announce He Will Challenge Ted Cruz For Senate: Report
Congressman Beto O’Rourke of Texas will announce on Friday that he is going to challenge Senator Ted Cruz the 2018 election, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Beto O’Rourke is scheduled to make an announcement on Friday in his hometown of El Paso. O’Rourke has reportedly traveled the state heavily in the last few months sparking more chatter that he will run for Senate.
According to the Chronicle, O’Rourke has said in the past that he’s “very moved to do it.”
O’Rourke teased in an email to supporters last week that he has a “big announcement.”
“U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, is the only other high-profile Democrat who has expressed interest in running against Cruz. Castro, 42, who has climbed the House ranks more swiftly than O’Rourke and may see himself as having more to lose, said recently he will announce his decision next month,” the Houston Chronicle notes.
In 2018 Democrats will need to defend 25 Senate seats, including 10 seats in states that President Trump won.
