BREAKING: Senate Republicans Go Nuclear
Senate Republicans on Thursday voted to change Senate rules and longstanding Senate precedent by lowering the threshold to end Senate debate from 60 votes down to 51.
The move strips Democrats of the power to filibuster Donald Trump Supreme Court nominees.
Senators voted along party lines 52 to 48 for the “nuclear option.”
The vote came shortly after Democrats successfully filibustered Neil Gorsuch. Republicans are expected to set the final Senate votes on Friday afternoon.
Senate Democratic leader said Thrusday, “We believe the Republican Party has been far more aggressive in the escalation of tactics and in the selection of extreme judicial candidates, while Democrats have tended to select judges closer to the middle.”
