Ossoff Exceeds Expectations With Strong First Place Finish In Georgia Congressional
Democrat Jon Ossoff finished in first place in the yesterday’s special election primary in Georgia, exceeding expectations and putting him in a strong position to win the general election in June.
Ossoff led the crowded field of 18 candidates in Tuesday’s primary finishing with over 48.1 percent of the vote well ahead of all his competitors.
Jon Ossoff will faceoff against Karen Handel who received 19.8 percent putting her at a distant second place.
Handel and Ossoff will now compete head to head in the June 20 general election.
Democrats had hoped Ossoff might be able to win the seat outright on Tuesday by exceeding the 50 percent threshold but he fell just short. Ossoff ran far better than any other Democrat had in this district before, narrowly missing the runoff.
Ossoff addressed a crowd of supporters late Tuesday night saying, “No matter what the outcome is tonight, whether we take it all or we fight on, we have defied the odds, we have shattered expectations,” he said.
“We are changing the world, and your voices are going to ring out across this state and across this country. We will be ready to fight on and win in June if it is necessary.”
