Sanders’ New Bill Is All You Need To Know About Difference Between Dems and Republicans
Sanders just introduced legislation to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, Trump wants to lower taxes for giant corporations.
Senator Bernie Sanders on Wednesday introduced legislation on Wednesday that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Sanders is joined by at least 21 Democrats to push for higher wages for working Americans.
The minimum wage increase bill from Democrats comes on the same day that Donald Trump is set to propose dramatically lowering the corporate income tax for giant corporations.
In a statement with the announcement, Senator Sanders said, “For the last 10 years, Congress, giving tax breaks to the rich, has forgotten to raise the minimum wage. We are here to remind them that a $7.25 minimum wage is a starvation minimum wage. Nobody can live on $7.25. You can’t live on $8. You can’t live on $10 an hour, and that is why we are saying that after 10 years of inaction the United States Congress is going to raise the minimum wage to a living wage: $15 an hour.”
Senator Patty Murray, who is co-sponsoring the legislation said, “I’m so proud of the strong steps taken in my home state to make sure that full-time work doesn’t leave people in our communities living in poverty. I believe we need a $15 federal minimum wage to bring that progress to communities nationwide. It’s the right thing to do for working parents, for the nearly two-thirds of minimum wage workers who are women, and as I’ve heard from business owners in Seattle, it’s the right thing to do for our local economies.”
The stark contrast between what Democrats are proposing and the Trump-Republican tax break for wealthy corporations tells you all you need to know about the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
