Impeachment talk is heating up on Capitol Hill.
Democratic Congressman Al Green of Texas just called for Donald Trump to be impeached during a speech on the House floor on Wednesday morning., accusing the president of
Green said that the president is obstructing justice with the firing of James Comey and the recent revelation that Trump told Comey to drop the FBI’s investigation into Flynn.
“I rise today with a sense of responsibility and duty to the people who have elected me, a sense of duty to this country, a sense of duty to the Constitution of the United States of America,” he began. “I rise today, Mr. Speaker, to call for the impeachment of the President of the United States of America for obstruction of justice.”
“There is a belief in this country that no one is above the law. And that includes the President of the United States of America.”
Green called on the American people to “let us know where you stand.”
“The American people don’t participate on Election Day only,” Green said. “It is time for you to let us know where you stand.”
Green implored, “The American people should speak out, speak up.”
Congressman Green also said that in calling for Trump to be impeached he was voicing a “position of conscience.”
“Each member of Congress has to make his or her decision,” he said. “This is where I stand; I will not be moved. The president must be impeached.”
