GOP Congressman Justin Amash: Comey Memo Grounds For Impeachment, If True
First cracks in the ice appear as Republican Congressman says Comey memo is grounds for impeachment.
Republican Congressman. Justin Amash of Michigan answered yes to a question from reporters asking if the Comey memo would be grounds for impeachment.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that FBI Director James Comey wrote a memo after a meeting with Trump saying that the president told him to drop the FBI’s investigation of Michael Flynn.
Amash said that if the reports about Trump’s pressure on Comey are true, it would merit impeachment.
Amash was asked by another reporter who he trusted more Comey or Trump – Amash said: “I think it’s pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey.”
Amash is also one of just two House Republicans to support a bill by Democrats to launch an independent commission into the Trump-Russia scandal.
Following the bombshell New York Times story about Comey’s memo, Senator John McCain said that he thought the Trump-Russia scandal was bigger in size and scale than Watergate.
And on Wednesday, the Senate’s Judiciary Committee sent a letter to the White House and FBI demanding copies of all Comey memos and any tapes or documents the Trump White House have regarding Comey.

The Senate letter was sent to White House Counsel Don McGahn asking him to hand over any recordings tied to “the FBI’s investigation of alleged ties between President Trump’s associates and Russia, or the Clinton email investigation, including all audio recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, and memoranda.”
