How Trump Plans To Give Your Boss Control Over Your Birth Control

It gives new meaning to “grab them by the p**sy.”

A little-noticed story on Wednesday could be on of the most significant of the entire Trump administration.

As part of the Republican attack on women’s health care, Donald Trump is planning to eliminate an Obama-era mandate that employer-provided health insurance provide reproductive coverage including birth control.

The argument for the Obamacare rule is pretty simple: your boss shouldn’t get a say over reproductive health.

Well, Trump clearly feels differently.

According to a leaked document obtained by Vox, under the draft Trump plan, any employer would be allowed to seek an exemption to the Obamacare rule on moral or religious grounds. Currently, only houses of worship and some companies are exempt.

As Vox notes, “The Affordable Care Act requires nearly all employers to offer health insurance that covers access to a wide array of contraceptive methods.”

And if the draft exemption is finalized, the number of women who would have to pay out of pocket for birth control could skyrocket.

“The birth control mandate is one of eight women’s preventive health benefits that the Affordable Care Act requires health plans to provide without any cost to the patient. Other required benefits include breastfeeding equipment, HPV testing, and domestic violence screenings,” Vox notes.

Republicans have been attempting to roll back these key women’s health care provisions in Obamacare for years.
