Trump-Russia Investigation Looks At Paul Manafort and Jeff Sessions Connections

Earlier today, we found out that the special counsel looking into the Trump associates’ connections to Russia was taking a deeper dive into Michael Flynn and his business associates.

Now the Associated Press reported that the special counsel is also adding former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to that list.

As a refresher, Manafort resigned from the campaign in August because of his past business dealings in Ukraine. And since then, Manafort has been at the center of the investigation because of his close ties to Russia and Russian-linked groups in eastern Europe.

It was reported in March that the Treasury Department had obtained Manafort’s financial records from Cyprus as part of a federal anti-corruption into his past work in eastern Europe.

Manafort Isn’t the Only One Added to the Special Counsel’s List

Additionally, according to the AP, the investigation may also look into the roles of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Sessions is under scrutiny for a series of undisclosed meetings with Russian officials, including Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

The move for the special counsel, led by Robert Mueller, shows that they are assuming a broad mandate.
