Trump Cabinet Member Accused of Misusing Campaign Funds

People continue to uncover ethics violations from members of the Trump administration.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Campaign Legal Center, a non-partisan campaign watchdog group, is accusing Trump’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price of misusing congressional campaign money.

The money was spent promoting his appointment as the HHS Secretary.

According to the complaint, Price’s campaign paid $40,000 to American Rising, which created videos urging senators to vote to confirm Price as HHS Secretary.

The complaint also included some of the documents the America Rising gave to senators to urge a “yes” vote on Price.

Price’s actions may have violated a campaign finance law that bans members of congress from using campaign funds for personal benefit.

The Federal Elections Commission will review the complaint and investigate whether Price’s payment to America Rising was tied to materials asking senators to vote for his confirmation, and whether any exclusions apply.
