Trump Blames World Leaders for US Trade Deficit

This isn’t the first time that Trump showed he can’t play well with the other world leaders.

He’s decided to offend the G20 leaders by telling them they are “largely responsible” for the U.S. trade deficit.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump told this to leaders in a closed door meeting during the summit.

The Journal noted that China alone is responsible for roughly two thirds of the U.S. trade deficit.

The White House has pledged to “unilaterally rebalance what it brands as unfair bilateral terms of trade,” differing from the rest of the G-20 countries that advocate for global platforms to resolve imbalances.

“The vast majority pointed out that we need free, but also fair, trade,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, according to the Journal. “The discussions on this are very difficult,” Merkel said.

Trump also split ways from 19 world leaders on the Paris Climate Agreement.

The Journal added in their report that European leaders warned the president that they would retaliate against protectionist measures from his administration.
