Bush Ethics Lawyer Richard Painter Says Trump Jr Meeting ‘Borders On Treason’ Video

Richard Painter, who was the top ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration, is calling Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Kremlin-linked attorney potentially treason.
The Russian lawyer claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton and Painter says that the meeting Trump Jr had “borders on treason.”
“This was an effort to get opposition research on an opponent in an American political campaign from the Russians, who were known to be engaged in spying inside the United States,” Richard Painter said MSNBC Sunday.
“We do not get our opposition research from spies, we do not collaborate with Russian spies unless we want to be accused of treason.”
Painter was quick to point out that the Bush administration would never had allowed the meeting, which was attended by Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
“If this story is true, we’d have one of them if not both of them in custody by now, and we’d be asking them a lot of questions,” he said. “This is unacceptable. This borders on treason, if it is not itself treason.”
Painter’s statements came after a report by The New York Times that Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin came after the lawyer promised to give him damaging information about Clinton.
In a public statement, Donald Trump Jr. essentially admitted collusion saying, “I was asked to have a meeting by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to the campaign.”
The Trump legal defense team has shifted their public strategy since the bombshell New York Times revelation trying to paint the meeting as a setup.
