Former Vice President Joe Biden is writing a new book which will be released November 14.
The book will be titled “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose.” It will cover his last year as vice president after his son Beau died of brain cancer in 2015..
The book’s title comes from something Beau said to his father at their last Thanksgiving together: “Promise me, Dad. Give me your word that no matter what happens, you’re going to be all right.”
“I hope my own story will strike a chord with other Americans who have walked the same path I have,” Biden said in a statement to The Times.
“I have always been fortunate to have an incredible support system around me, and I understand how many people in this country go through far worse than I have, with far less support.”
According to The New York Times, Biden will embark on a 19 city book tour this fall, with the hope of having conversations that move past “the 24-hour news cycle and 140-character arguments.”
The book will be published with Flatiron Books of New York.
Bob Miller, the president and publisher of Flatiron Books, commented about the book, “‘Promise Me, Dad’ is unlike any other book I’ve read by a political figure, thanks to Vice President Joe Biden’s willingness to be deeply personal on the one hand, and candid about political life on the other. It’s that rare book by a politician that will truly have lasting resonance.”
