Dan Rather’s Response To John McCain’s Diagnosis Is Touching
Dan Rather is a class act, but we already knew that.
Immediately after news of John McCain’s diagnosis with a brain tumor was announced, people from all sides of the political spectrum shared their well-wishes and hope for the Senator.
Legendary news man Dan Rather released a particularly touching statement on his Facebook account.
Here is Rather’s full statement:
I hope we never get to a point where our partisanship saps us of our humanity. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, the news about John McCain’s illness is a sad day for this country. I hope you pause, reflect, and pray for John. He is a man who has selfless service to this nation. He is a patriot.
I first met John in the early 1980s when he came to Washington as a Representative. He was already a hero for his service and conduct as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He was and is not perfect, none of us are. But he loves this country with a sense of fairness and honesty that is refreshing among our elected officials.
He is in for a fight and a fighter he is. He and his family are in my thoughts. Godspeed John McCain.
