CBO Confirms So-Called ‘Skinny Repeal’ Bill Would Cost 16 Million People Insurance
Skinny repeal bill would be a disaster.
The Congressional Budget Office just released their analysis of the so-called “skinny repeal” bill that would remove Obamacare’s individual and employer mandates, and the results are about as bad as every other Republican proposal.
According to the CBO, the “skinny repeal” bill would result in 16 million people losing their health insurance by 2021.
In addition, the analysis by CBO finds that insurance premiums would surge as a result. According to the CBO, it would result in premiums that are roughly 20% higher than they are under the current law, each year.
Here are some of the key features of the “skinny repeal” bill:
- Repeal both the individual and employer mandates, which requires individuals to have health insurance, and employers to provide health insurance to employees.
- It would also repeal some of the taxes that the ACA put in place — most significantly, a tax on medical-device makers.
- Defund Planned Parenthood
- Repeal Prevention and Public Health Fund
- Repeal Community Health Center Fund
