House Republicans Pass Funding For Trump’s Border Wall

Republicans in the House of Representatives passed a spending bill on Thursday that includes $1.6 billion of funding for Donald Trump’s border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The funding for the border wall is expected to face stiffer opposition in the Senate where Democrats have more power.

“Every single dime the President requested to start building a wall on our southern border he’s going to get,” said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

The House bill was passed on a 230-196 procedural vote that denied angry Democrats an up-or-down vote.

Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to make Mexico pay for the border wall, which experts say won’t prevent illegal immigration or drug smuggling, however, he has yet to spell out how he plans to do that.
