Former Obama Aide Calls on Congress to Have ‘Political Courage’ for Healthcare Bill

Former President Barack Obama’s spokesman Kevin Lewis urged Congress to work together to improve current healthcare law.

“President Obama has always said we should build on this law, just as members of both parties worked together to improve Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid over the years,” Lewis said in a statement.

Lewis continued to express how Obama believed that Congress can still come together and find common ground.

“President Obama still believes that it is possible for Congress to demonstrate the necessary bipartisanship and political courage to keep delivering on the promise of quality, affordable health insurance for every American,” Lewis said.

This statement comes just after the Republicans failed to pass the skinny repeal bill, due to Republican Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and John McCain voted no.

Democrats — and Obama — have openly admitted that there needs to be improvements to the current healthcare, but have continually opposed a full repeal – which Trump and other Republican leaders kept pushing.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said “it’s time to move on” the full repeal failed.
