Trump Could Face Legal Liability Over Trump Jr’s Bogus Statement On Russia Meeting: Report
BREAKING
Donald Trump was intimately involved in the writing of his son Trump Jr.’s false statement about the now infamous meeting in Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer promising help from the Russian government.
According to The Washington Post, “Advisers worry that the president’s direct involvement leaves him needlessly vulnerable to allegations of a coverup.”
The statement that Trump dictated was almost immediately proven to be a lie by a follow-up story by The New York Times.
Trump’s advisers wanted to put out a truthful statement to get ahead of the story, “but within hours, at the president’s direction, the plan changed.”
As The Washington Post notes, “Flying home from Germany on July 8 aboard Air Force One, Trump personally dictated a statement in which Trump Jr. said he and the Russian lawyer had ‘primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children’ when they met in June 2016, according to multiple people with knowledge of the deliberations. The statement, issued to the New York Times as it prepared a story, emphasized that the subject of the meeting was ‘not a campaign issue at the time.'”
The Washington Post report went on to note that Trump “is increasingly acting as his own lawyer, strategist and publicist, often disregarding the recommendations of the professionals he has hired.”
