If Midterms Were Today, Democrats Would Win In A Landslide: New Poll
Is it next November yet?
A new poll released Thursday finds that Democrats have a commanding lead against Republicans in a generic House ballot.
According to the new Quinnipiac University Poll, 52 percent of voters said they want Democrats to win control of the House if the midterm elections were held today.
Just 38 percent said they would want Republicans to maintain control.
Importantly, among independents, 48 percent favor Democrats to win the House, and just 37 percent want Republicans.
Democrats also have strong support for winning back the Senate
While winning back the House is possible, even likely based on current polling, the Senate will be a harder battle to win. Democrats have more tough races in 2018 than Republicans.
But the Quinnipiac University Poll found positive numbers for the Democrats with 53 percent saying that they want Democrats to win control of the Senate if the elections were held today.
Just 39 percent said they would like Republicans to hold the majority.
Again, independents favor Democrats with 49 percent saying they favor Democrats and just 40 percent favoring Republicans.
The results follow polling results released yesterday that found Donald Trump’s approval rating at a historic low of 33 percent.
About the poll: Quinnipiac University Poll was in the field from July 27 to Aug. 1 and surveyed 1,125 voters across the country via cell phone and land line. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 points.
