Donald Trump has selected former Texas Governor Rick Perry to head the Department of Energy. Rick Perry of course famously once forgot that he wanted to abolish the Energy Department in a 2012 Republican debate.

Rick Perry started out as a 2016 Republican primary rival and later an opponent of Donald Trump. In fact, Rick Perry called Donald Trump a “cancer on conservatism”
However, when it became clear that Donald Trump would win the nomination, Rick Perry changed his tune and began supporting Trump.
Perry’s famous “oops” moment came in 2012 when he forgot that he’d named the Department of Energy to be abolished – the agency Donald Trump now wants him to head.
Rick Perry is of course a climate change denier. As Texas governor, was an unabashed champion of the oil industry. He’s questioned the science that shows that greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change, calling it “the secular carbon cult.”

Perry has also said, “I think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects.”
Perry is also likely to face questions during confirmation hearings about the Dakota Access Pipeline, because he serves on the board of directors of Energy Transfer Partners, the company trying building the controversial project near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation.
The Obama administration recently announced the pipeline was on hold.
