Joaquin Castro Calling For Investigation Of New GOP-Russian Email Operation

Congressman Joaquin Castro, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, on Saturday called for the committee to investigate and demand testimony about the Republican cooperation with Russian hackers that attempted to acquire emails stolen from Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Rep. Joaquin Castro wants the committee, which oversees the House probe into Russian meddling in the election, to hear testimony from Matt Tait.

Tait is a British security consultant who says a Republican activist tried to recruit him last year as part of an operation to obtain and authenticate Clinton’s emails from a Russian hacking group.

Peter Smith, the longtime GOP operative who led the effort to acquire the emails from Russian hackers reached out to Tait asking him to authenticate the emails.

Smith has since died.

“The House Intelligence Cmte should hear from Matt Tait ASAP,” Castro wrote on Twitter.
