Governor Brown Signs Law Making California A Sanctuary State

California continues Trump resistance.

California Governor Jerry Brown announced Thursday that he signed legislation that would block local law enforcement from enforcing federal immigration law.

The move by California’s longest-serving governor officially makes California a sanctuary state.

The bill passed the California legislature by wide margins last month.

California police and sheriffs officers will be blocked from asking a detainee about their immigration status.

Additionally, agencies will be prevented from complying with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer requests.

The California Values Act will also require schools, health care facilites and courthouses to establish their own policies to limit immigration enforcement from being executed on their properties.

“This bill protects public safety and people who come to California to work hard and make this state a better place,” Brown said in a statement.
