Another Senior Republican Member Of Congress Just Called It Quits
House Republicans clearly see the writing on the wall.
New Jersey Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen announces retirement.
Another member of Republican leadership in the House of Representatives has decided to call it a career. New Jersey Republican Rodney Frelinghuysen announced Monday that he will not seek reelection in 2018.
Frelinghuysen’s district is seen as increasingly competitive and one of the dozens of districts that Democrats are targeting in their effort to flip the House in 2018.
Donald Trump won Frelinghuysen’s district by just one point in 2016.
Frelinghuysen, the chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, is just the latest member of Republican leadership to call it quits ahead of 2018. Frelinghuysen is the ninth Republican committee chairman to announce he won’t seek re-election.
