A federal court judge ruled Wednesday that Paul Manafort lied to the Grand Jury opening the door for more jail time for the Trump campaign chairman.
Paul Manafort will face significant additional jail time after a federal court judge agreed with Special Counsel Robert Mueller that Manafort lied and violated his cooperation deal.
The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson reaffirms Mueller’s latest set of charges against the former Donald Trump campaign chairman. Mueller charges that Manafort lied during his cooperation sessions and to the Grand Jury about his contacts with Konstantin Kilimnik, a longtime aide alleged to have ties to Russian intelligence.
Specifically, Manafort lied regarding his conversations with Kilimnik regarding their work for pro-Russian forces in Ukraine as well as a potential deal to relieve Russia from sanctions.
The ruling opens the door for Special Counsel prosecutors to “throw the book” at Manafort in sentencing and based on Manafort’s age he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
