Trump To Reverse Obamacare Birth Control Mandate
Trump ushers in real life Handmaid’s Tale.
President Trump will reverse the federal requirement for employers to provide health insurance plans that cover their employees’ birth control.
According to The New York Times, the reversal could happen as soon as Friday.
Trump has long pledged to remove the Obamacare mandate in order to allow large employers and insurance companies to claim religious objections to covering birth control.
Experts estimate that the reversal will lead hundreds of employers to drop coverage of birth control.
Thanks to Obamacare, over 55 million women in the United States have received birth control coverage with zero out-of-pocket costs, according to the National Women’s Law Center. According to the center, the Obamacare mandate has saved women an estimated $1.4 billion on birth control pills alone in 2013.
