Shutdown Won’t Stop Special Counsel Mueller’s Investigation
The Office of the Special Counsel will continue its investigation of President Trump through the government shut down.
Special Counsel’s team of investigators are exempt from furlough and would continue their investigation of President Trump and his campaign during a government shutdown, the Justice Department confirmed to CNN.
The Justice Department said Mueller’s team “would continue their operations in the case of a lapse in appropriations.”
The government shut down late Friday night when the Republican-controlled Congress failed to pass a spending bill in the Senate.
The news the Mueller’s investigation will not be impacted by a shutdown is important because according to all public indications the Special Counsel has ramped up its investigation of President Trump, his administration and his campaign in recent weeks.
Thus far, Mueller has received guilty pleas and cooperation deals with two Trump associates including former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Mueller has also indicted two other Trump campaign officials – Pual Manafort and Rick Gates.
